Time Flies......

I thought this next blog entry would be the Easter vacation update but that will have to wait. We had to post this special reflection blog because, though it’s hard to believe, one year ago today we received the most important phone call of our lives - -we learned that Hui-Hui was our daughter and that she was waiting for us in China to bring her home. It was around 1130am and I (Cindy) was on my office line, presenting to our General Manager, and the home phone rang. I just knew it was “The Call”! So, I literally stopped mid-sentence, said “I have to get off”, passed the presentation off to my boss, and picked up the home phone. It was Meg from our agency, and she cheerfully said, “I have some good news about your daughter……” She only had a little bit of information, more would be sent once fully translated from chinese to english. She couldn't even pronounce her name but she spelled it out for me, told me her current weight and height and what county and province she was living in.

That evening we received an email with some more information and three pictures. We remember slowly and nervously opening up the email and scrolling down the page to the pictures…….This was the moment! What were we afraid of? She was sweet but looked scared in all of the pictures, and in one picture, you could even say she looked a little mad. We have come to know that look as “the look of concern” (her doctor calls it “slight asymmetrical facial features”). That same night, we emailed her medical information to our pediatrician. There was some initial fear about her developmental delays and we quickly secured the opinion of China adoption specialists in Boston. We got the thumbs up that she looked like a typical China adoptee, small in size and developmentally delayed. In all likelihood, she would catch up and thrive. We had already fallen in love and no matter what, we would do everything we could to help our daughter grow and develop to be the best she could be.

Here are her referral pictures; we believe these were taken in February, 2007...

Here are a couple of shots of us that night, on the phone telling our parents about Hui-Hui....

A year later, Hui-Hui is the light of our life. She has one of the best dispositions we’ve ever encountered (child or adult), can compete with the best of comedians and is destined to be an actor with her astonishingly accurate imitations. She is a love bug and though we're pooped out many days, we still can't wait to get up in the morning to see what's in store for us with Hui-Hui.

Here's some recent shots of our little silly. She doesn't look scared anymore!

We were flying high one year ago today and we’re still up in the stratosphere somewhere most days, because of Hui-Hui.

We love you Hui-Hui.

Love,
Mama and Dada
